Hungarian airline Wizz Air, which launched its first service from Bristol Airport in June, is to add a second next year when it starts flying to Sofia, the capital city of Bulgaria.
The twice-weekly service will operate on Mondays and Fridays from March 28.
Wizz Air, the largest low-cost carrier in Central and Eastern Europe, introduced the first direct flights from Bristol to the Polish city of Katowice six weeks ago, which also operates on Mondays and Fridays. 
The Sofia service will take to 17 the number of capital cities served by Bristol Airport.
Sofia is Bulgaria’s largest city and one of the oldest in Europe. It lies at the foot of popular ski mountain Vitosha – making it an ideal location for a winter skiing holiday – while its rich cultural history and cobblestone boulevards make it a summer break option and an all year-round destination.
Bristol Airport head of aviation development Peter Downes said: “We are delighted that Wizz Air has added this new scheduled route to our network from Bristol, further enhancing the range of destinations available to people living in the South West and Wales from their local airport.
“With a unique blend of East-meets-West culture, ancient and modern architecture, as well as renowned winter sports facilities, Sofia has something for everyone and is sure to be popular with passengers.”
Wizz Air corporate communications manager Tamara Mshvenieradze said fares on the route would start at £24.49.
Budapest-based Wizz Air operates a fleet of 63, 180-seat Airbus A320 aircraft connecting 112 destinations across 38 countries in a route network stretching from Barcelona and Belfast to Warsaw, Oslo and Dubai.
