Ahead of this Sunday’s International Women’s Day, the Association of Women in Property (WiP) is this evening hosting an event to highlight the work of Concern Universal, the charity aiming to bring opportunities to communities worldwide and help to beat poverty.
The drinks and tapas reception at The Lido, Clifton, Bristol, which starts at 6.30pm, will hear from Amber Andrews of Concern Universal about its work to support women across the globe. 
Women in Property South West branch chair Natalia Sokolov said: “We are really pleased that Amber is able to join us for the evening
“It will be inspiring to learn about the work undertaken by Concern Universal and we are particularly interested to hear about some of the practical projects that they are undertaking in tackling poverty and inequality globally.”
Amber added: “There is a great deal of synergy between the work we do in supporting and encouraging girls and women to take control of their own lives in countries that have been hard hit by poverty, natural catastrophe and war and the same ethos of inspiration and leadership advocated by WiP. I’m looking forward to telling people all about this, at the event this week.”
Supporting women in the property and construction industry is central to WiP’s work. The organisation strives to encourage girls and young women to embrace the opportunities presented to them in this sector.
The South West branch recently ran a schools competition when Year Nine students (age 13 -14) were invited to design an eco-home, focusing on sustainability and reflecting the demands of a modern lifestyle. The aim was both to inspire the girls to consider issues of sustainability but also, critically, to start them thinking about a career in the industry at an early stage.
Amber added, “It is terrific that WiP is doing this sort of work. The more that girls are encouraged to have the confidence and self-belief that they too can succeed in their chosen career, the better. Concern Universal does a lot of work with UK schools and so we know how valuable these lively, interactive projects are to get youngsters understanding about the very serious issues facing people the world over.”
The event has been organised by Alice Lang and sponsored by law firm Veale Wasborough Vizards and Wates Construction.
