Bath coding bootcamp Mayden Academy has been named as the sixth best in the world in a survey based on the views of more than 20,000 student and alumni.
The 2021 Best Coding Bootcamp Rankings, by independent trainer ratings website SwitchUp, also took into account more than 500 technology bootcamps in operation across the globe.
Set up by Bath-based specialist software house Mayden, the academy, pictured, teaches people to code, preparing them for new careers as software developers in just 16 weeks.
It was already one of the top coding training providers in the UK, with five-star ratings on industry ranking site Course Report.
Now it has been placed in the top 10 of SwitchUp’s international ranking. To be considered for the rankings, bootcamps were assessed across criteria including quality of curriculum, career support and an overall experience score.
The achievement reflects consistently high standards of success, with only bootcamps with excellent alumni satisfaction (rated at least four out of five stars) being shortlisted.
This is the first year that Mayden Academy has earned a place in the top 50 rankings for its coding course the Full Stack Track, entering straight into a top 10 position.
The academy, one of only two UK-owned bootcamps to make the list, is committed to improving diversity in tech and works with a range of industry partners to improve access and representation.
Mayden Academy director Mike Oram said: “We are overwhelmed to be recognised as a global leader in training people to become great software developers. As a small team we have worked incredibly hard to provide the best possible coding training since we started in 2015, so it is great to know that our alumni are as proud of us as we are of them.”
Academy 2020 graduate Daniella Skinner said: “The Mayden Academy course is more than just a coding bootcamp; it's one of the best things I’ve done and I would recommend it to anyone considering a career in tech.
“It was a friendly, fun, and supportive environment and during my time there I felt that the trainers and everyone involved in running the course wanted the students to do well.”
Mayden Academy’s Full Stack Track course is an intensive 16-week training course for people who want to change careers, teaching all the skills needed to become a software developer.
The academy also works with tech companies all over the South West, introducing their coding graduates to employers who need new tech talent.
SwitchUp’s study of students enrolled in coding bootcamps during the pandemic found that 90% were satisfied with their learning experience.
This was due to supportive instructors, helpful career services and a strong sense of community. It also noted that, as coding bootcamps are embedded in the tech world, they were able to respond more quickly and effectively to teaching in lockdown than traditional educators.
Mayden Academy’s own remote student survey found that 100% of its students were either satisfied or very satisfied with the quality of training provided during lockdown.
